The Orphanage
What a blessing and honor to watch God work! We just returned from our latest trip to the Dominican Republic and the thrill of serving just never gets old!
With the orphanage about finished, we had a list of things we wanted to accomplish and check on while we were there, and one- by-one the list was completed! Nothing is impossible with our God! For example, we wanted a doorway cut through a concrete wall for the safety of the children, and God placed a man at the orphanage when we got there who had the tools and the skills to complete the task that day at a low cost. In addition, God has put people in Canot’s life who can help with major decisions and budgeting. We were able to buy some bunk beds, a handmade kitchen-type table, a food/dish storage cabinet, and a dresser at low cost. We were able to make the house ready to be a home for orphan children.
From the start two years ago when we met Canot and he told us his dream was to open an orphanage, to the finish, God’s hand has been working and amazingly evident. With Him, nothing is impossible! Once the orphanage was “ready”, we met our first child who needed a safe, loving home.
Our First Orphan Child
Juan Calos was introduced to us in the village of Cajuil, which is a very poor area in the countryside. We met this beautiful sweet child with sad, soulful eyes.
We had done a VBS for the children last year in this village but no one was aware of the orphanage we were working on. When we were there last summer, we were asked to come pray for a lady named Rosa who was very emaciated and very sick. We prayed for her, and took her medicine and food. Rosa passed away a few months ago and left her grandson, Juan Calos. The grandfather is living, but is an alcoholic and does not take care of him. His parents are both dead.
After we arrived in the village, we were asked if there was any way we could help Juan Calos. After talking with his grandfather, an aunt who lives someplace else, and with Juan Calos, we were able to take him with us to his new home and life.
We bought him new clothes (he owned only one pair of torn, dirty pants) and new shoes. We provided some toys and food for the orphanage.
He was thrilled to come with us. When Canot asked him if he would like to come live with him, Juan Calos said, “Yes, please, my life is very bad here.” After just a few days, Canot and Juan Calos are already buddies! We have witnessed his big heart and a smile that reaches his soul. Such a blessing!
We are looking for sponsors for the children as they come into the orphanage. For $50 per month, the money will be used to feed, clothe and care for these precious children. If you are interested, please contact us and let us know you would like to sponsor a child.
We are also taking donations so the kids can attend school.
Help for a Church
Cajuil is the countryside village where we have done food distributions and VBS in a small church for two years now. The pastor told us that he had been praying for a week that we would come back. He said that God told him we were coming.
Pastor talks with Canot and Kim
He told us the roof of the church is full of holes, so when it rains, everything inside gets wet. The walls of the building are in such poor, rotted condition that you can punch through them and people break in and steal.

They need a new roof (the tin will cost about $360) and the wood needs to be replaced. The walls of the church need to be replaced with concrete block (about $1500).

He also asked us again about helping him start a school. When we asked how we could help, he said he needed school supplies. He plans to be the teacher. He knows the importance of education for all the children of the village. What a precious, caring soul!
If you would like to help this precious pastor and his congregation, please contact us and designate your gift to the church in Cajuil. Identify your gift as money for the roof, walls, or school.
One More Need
We were blessed to do a food distribution and Bible study at a small church near the orphanage. The pastor asked for a Study Bible in Spanish.

This 90-year-old lady lived near the orphanage and became very ill and close to death. We were asked to come pray for her. We gave God the glory when she was finally up and feeling better a few days later.

The children were happy to see us back in Cajuil. The pastor told us we are the only people who had ever come to help them.

Thank you Winn Dixie for providing the snacks for VBS! Thank you McCall family for coping the color pages for VBS! Kids and adults wanted the color sheets and crayons. |
Thank you Sherwin Williams for donating all the paint sticks. The kids love playing balloon tennis |
And finally…meet Lucky and Chewy! Canot was driving one night and Lucky was laying in the middle of the road and wouldn’t move. He was very skinny and sick. Canot took him home and helped him get well. Chewy was a neighbor’s dog that was extremely malnourished and scared of everyone. He broke our hearts! We gave him some food and lots of lovin’ while there. Lucky and Chewy became good buddies. Canot said he would keep him; the neighbors agreed. A true happy ending! |
We want to thank New Day Custom Homes, Stone Plus, and all the friends, family, and supporters who help make this ministry possible! We are so blessed to have you working with us to share Christ’s love! |
